The True Cost of Coal - Jharia Coal Mine, India
Mr Kevin Grandia
Director, Greenpeace USA
The Jharia coal mine in the Jharkhand State of India has been described as "hell on earth" for reasons made clear in the images below, but also because there has been underground coal fires burning here for nearly a century. Greenpeace was there recently to document the living and working conditions for the people of Jharia.
Mr Kevin Grandia is a Director at Greenpeace USA and has been writing on climate change and other pressing environmental issues for more than five years.
