Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute - 2010 Design Awards Winners

The Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute announced the winners of their biennial 2010 CRSI Design Awards program.


The I-35W bridge in Minneapolis, Minn., was one of the winners in the Bridge Category.


The Richmond Speed Skating Oval, in Richmond, British Columbia, won in the Cultural & Entertainment Facilities Category.


One of the winners in the Residential Buildings Category was the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago.


Also winning in the Residential Buildings Category is The Ascent at Roebling's Bridge in Covington, Ky.

Entries were evaluated on aesthetics, innovation, engineering achievement, functional excellence and economy of construction. According to Bob Risser, PE, CRSI President, "The inherently flexible properties of reinforced concrete enables professionals to express their unique vision in building and bridge projects. The CRSI Design Awards program recognizes designers for their creativity in using this great material."


For more than 37 years, the CRSI Design Awards program has honored excellence in reinforced concrete structures and acknowledged their designers. The CRSI Design Awards program is open to architects, engineers, contractors and fabricators - entrants may be individuals or teams. Eligible structures must be located in the United States, Canada or Mexico.


Founded in 1924, the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) is a trade association that stands as the authoritative resource for information related to steel reinforced concrete construction. Serving the needs of architects, engineers and construction professionals, CRSI offers many technical publications, design aids, software programs, educational seminars, promotional activities, membership functions and design award programs. CRSI members are manufacturers, fabricators and placers of steel reinforcing bar and related products, as well as professionals who are involved in the research, design and construction of reinforced concrete. Serving the construction market in the United States, Canada and Mexico, CRSI is headquartered in Schaumburg, Illinois with regional offices located across the United States. The mission of the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute is to maximize the use of steel reinforcement in concrete in construction.
