Reuter reported that China National Petroleum Corp has completed construction of the third Shaanxi-Beijing gas pipeline and will put it into operation on January 4.

As per report, the 896 kilometer pipeline, with a capacity of 15 billion cubic metres per year will boost gas supply security for Beijing and neighboring regions. The existing two Shaanxi-Beijing pipelines have a total capacity of 20 billion cubic meters per year.

The report said construction of the pipeline started on May 26 2009. However, the National Development and Reform Commission only approved the project this month.

CNPC operates its key oil and gas businesses via listed PetroChina Co Ltd.
