
China Knowledge reported that China Huaneng Group, China top power producer and the parent of Huaneng Power International Inc may add as much as 800 megawatts of hydropower capacity in the Tibet Autonomous Region by 2015 and 10 GW by 2020.
China Huaneng said in a statement that it is constructing the Zangmu hydropower plant in Tibet, the largest such kind of facility by capacity and investment in the region.
The Zangmu project which is designed to have an installed capacity of 510 MW is expected to go into operation in 2014. In addition, China Huaneng plans to start a power project in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in April 2012 with a total investment of CNY 6 billion.
