
China Knowledge quoted according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Public Security that China saw its number of motor vehicles on road hit 233 million at the end of June this year 8.26 million or 3.67% more than at the end of 2011.
The ministry said the figure included 114 million automobiles and 103 million motorcycles.
Shandong Province and Guangdong Province each have motor vehicles of more than 20 million units on road. There are eight provinces in China each with motor vehicles of over 10 million units.
The number of privately owned cars had reached 86.13 million units at the end of June accounting for 75.62% of the country total car ownership, 1.21 percentage points higher than at the end of last year.
There are five Chinese cities, namely Beijing, Chengdu, Tianjin, Shenzhen and Shanghai each with car ownership of more than 2 million units.
