
It is reported that in order to put mixture adjustment in the steel industry into practice and speed up the pace, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People Republic of China held a conference during November 3rd to 5th to discuss on the revision of Steel Industry Development Policy which was unveiled on July 20th 2005 after two years of drafting and revision
Mr Wu Xichun honorary chairman of China Iron & Steel Association, Ms Xi Qihua Baosteel former chairwoman and other representatives from 20 steel mills were invited to the symposium.
Mr Li Yizhong Chief of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that China steel industry contributes a lot to the national economy and social development however the industry now is plagued by some troubles and problems. The steel industry has been greatly impacted since the start of the worldwide economic crisis.
These troubles and problems have already aroused high attention from the state council, who institutes series of policies on mixture adjustment for the industry, curbing overcapacity, regrouping and recombination, out of dated capacity elimination, quickening technology reformation and perfecting industrial policies.
Mr Li emphasized that all steel enterprises should put their eyes on the market and organize production as per the real demand. The total output should be capped. Besides, medium and long term research and forecasts on the industry should be strengthened.
Indirect steel exports but not directs steel exports will be encouraged as the development of the industry should give priority to the domestic demand. Standards should be perfected. To guide steel production consumption and to enlarge the consumption area should depend on lifting up relative standards.
