According to Mr Li Xinchuang secretary general of the China Iron and Steel Association, Chinese steel enterprises should fight back against the claims of the European Steel Association that Chinese steel producers' exports are backed by government subsidiaries.
As previously reported by SteelOrbis, EUROFER has filed a countervailing duty complaint with the European Commission providing evidence that the sharp increase in EU imports of organic coated sheet from China is caused by strong subsidization.
According to EUROFER, the share of organic coated steel from China in the EU market has increased from 0.5% in 2004 to 15% over the last 12 months, with imports at their highest-ever levels in the second and third quarters of 2011.
Some officials at major Chinese steel mills have stated that, if the EU authorities initiate a relevant investigation, transactions of the steel products in question will be affected.
