Data from China Iron and Steel show that Chongqing Steel became the largest steel production base in China, owing to 499,000 tonnes of ship plate production in Q1 2012.
The production figure show that Xiangtan Steel and Baosteel ranked the second and third with 381,700 and 315,700 tonnes of ship plate while the conventional Ansteel slipped to the forth place with 312,900 tonnes.
It seems obvious that the major ship plate producers in China are Chongqing Steel, Xiangtan Steel, Baosteel and Ansteel.
In 2008-2011, Chongqing Steel’ ship plate production went up to 2.08 million tonnes from 1 million tonnes, ranking the second in 2011.
