It is reported that north western province Gansu is to construct major power transmission lines in the next five years to send electricity to power thirsty central provinces.

The province has signed an agreement with Hunan to kick off the 800KV Jiuquan to Zhuzhou line in 2012. The project will be completed by 2013-2014, and will supply 35 billion to 40 billion KW hour per year of electricity from the Jiuquan wind power base to Hunan, meeting one third of local demand.

Gansu will also commence construction on a line from Longdong to Jiangxi’s Xinyu in 2013 and complete it by 2015, with capacity at 7.5GW. Gansu’s power capacity will increase from 21.51GW at end 2010 to 50GW by 2015, with wind power sharing 17GW.

The Jiuquan wind power base kicked off construction at end 2009, and is to have an installed capacity of 12.71GW by end-2015.
