China Securities Journal reported that Great Wall Motor Co Ltd vehicle sales jumped by 83.2% YoY to nearly 80,000 units in the first five months of this year.

Great Wall Motor said that the auto maker attributed the sales boom to the increasing demand for its relatively cost-effective sedan models such as the 1.3L and 1.5L GW Florida models and the 1.5L Coolbear model.

Great Wall Motor plans to release more new models in the second half of this year, including the 1.5L CROSS, the CH031 sedan, and 1.3L and 1.5L Hover SUVs.

The auto maker aims to sell 200,000 vehicles this year.

Great Wall Motor last month kicked off construction on its Bulgaria plant with local partner Litex Motors. With an investment of EUR 80 million, the new plant will produce Great Wall's Florida cars and Hover SUVs for the Bulgarian market.
