Yanzhao Metropolis Daily reported that 20 blast furnaces and 3 converters were simultaneously dismantled on November 12th in five regions and cities in China Hebei province, another significant move in the local government attempts to upgrade the steel industry and wash out the obsolete capacity.
Hebei is China No 1 steel making province, contributing 20% of the country total steel production. However, the regional resources and environment have been heavily weighted by the booming steel industry.
The local government has taken strong measures these years to promote the consolidation of the steel sector, eliminate the backward capacity and upgrade the industrial concentration, with a view to transferring the big steel producer to a real strong steel titan.
Before this move, 16 blast furnaces of below 400 cubic square and 13 converters of less than 300,000 tonnes had been removed, equivalently 4.45 million tonnes of iron melting capacity and 3.6 million tonnes of steel melting capacity.
