Barely couple of days after the National Holidays the moorings became clear that the misery in domestic steel market was getting transformed into excruciating agony. A whopping drop of 1% in steel prices within 2 days signaled it was hell cut loose and there was no silver lining on the nebulous horizon.
In terms of downstream demand, with the slowdown of fixed assets investment growth, together with the decrease of newly started projects, plus the flagging global market, both domestic demand for steel products and export of steel products posted declining trend.
Appalling economic performance in both domestic and global markets as well as vacillating financial market bottom seemed distant. In fact with downstream industries showing signs of weakening, steel mills are disposed to align production with the demand by resorting to production pruning.
The Chinese Long Product Price Index CLPPI has gone down by 164 points last week whereas the Chinese Flat Products Index CFPPI has also declined by 83 points. The overall price index CHISPI declined by 118 points.
