
It is reported that several steel importers in Nanjing chose to import steel scrap for improving enterprise efficiency as well as reducing cost after AQSIQ strengthening to check the imported oxide-scale in last Oct. In addition, steel scrap price on the international market is much lower than iron ore due to the financial turmoil. Therefore, scrap import surges at Nanjing port.
As per report, so far, about ten batches of 28,000 tonnes of steel scrap with a total value of USD 7.7 million have been imported at Nanjing port, keeping the same level with last December.
The staff at the local inspection and quarantine bureau takes active measures to ensure high efficiency concerning the particularity of the raw material.
