
It is reported that Qingdao Port, the second largest international trading port in China, has finished 25.72 million tonnes of throughput in January as of January 31st up by 3% YoY. The port has loaded and unloaded 852,000 TEU of containers in the same period, growing 2% YoY which broke its highest record.
The official from Water Transport Department of The Ministry of Communications said Qingdao Port averagely handled 96,000 tonnes of cargo and 36,270 cars by rail per second in Jan, which also created a new history. Meanwhile, its unit consumption of energy dips 3.9%.
Mr Chang Dechuan, president of Qingdao Port said they adopted "less than container load method to face the great recession in shipping market with integrated corporation with shippers, owners of cargo and neighboring ports. Its total throughput in 2008 has hit 300 million tonnes with 10 million TEU of containers.
