SMS Meer has received an order for the delivery of a 60/70 MN open die forging press from Qiqihar North Forging Steel Co Ltd in Chinese province of Heilongjiang.
The plant operates with a forging force of up to 60 MN and an upsetting force of 70 MN. The commissioning of the plant is planned in summer 2012.
In future, high grade materials like tool steel, stainless steel and high alloy materials will be processed on the press as semi finished products for various industrial applications.
The investment made by Qiqihar North Forging Steel, which is part of the Dalian Dongbei Group, comes as part of "The Technical Retrofitting for Optimization and Upgrading of Forgings" program. The steel producer plans to extend its range of products by means of the new press.
The Dalian Dongbei Special Steel Group Co Ltd has already taken delivery of two machines from SMS Meer a high speed open-die forging press with 80/100 MN press force and an SMX 800/16-MN hydraulic forging machine. Both machines are currently being assembled in Dalian. To date SMS Meer has sold a total of over 450 forging presses worldwide and therefore ranks as one of the market leaders in this sector.
