Emirates Business 24|7 reported that Serbia has signed a deal with a Chinese construction firm to build a bridge in Belgrade.
Work on the EUR 170 million bridges over the river Danube is due to start in October or November 2010. It is hoped the 1.5 kilometer bridge will reduce traffic congestion in central Belgrade and ease the movement of goods out of the city.
Mr Wei Jinghua Chinese Ambassador in Belgrade said after the contract was signed that the contract, with the China Road and Bridge Corporation still has to be approved by the Serbian parliament before the project can go ahead. The bridge over the Danube is the most significant economic project between Serbia and China.
He said that the bridge was part of a strategic partnership agreed between Serbia and China during Serb President Boris Tadic's visit to Beijing in August.
