Shandong Steel Group Jinan Steel closed down its 350 cubic meters blast furnace, the 22nd closed blast furnace since the 11th Five-Year Plan, remarking the group completion of its 2011 backward capacity washout target requested by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

It is reported that Shandong Steel has accumulatively eliminated 2.03 million tonnes backward iron making capacity and 1.8 million steelmaking capacity during the 11th Five-Year. In 2011, Shandong Steel weeded out 4.15 million tonnes iron making capacity and 400,000 tonnes steelmaking capacity.
