
It is reported that Shanghai Yangshan port area handled 704,000 TEU in August down by 0.6% over July. Waterway waterway transshipments came to 349,600 TEU down by 14% over July. International transshipments dropped 9.2% over the prior month to 64,000 TEU.
Analysts said the decrease was caused by Typhoon Morakot in early August. As the regional economy is turning better the port area throughput will continue to grow.
In August, Yangshan registered an historic high in its inbound and outbound vessel volume which rose 2.5%YoY to 606 ships.
