According to the press conference of Tangshan, Hebei province that the city has cumulatively accomplished nearly 900 pollutant source control projects in 2009 with a total input of about CNY 6 billion.

Mr Ji Zhemin the local government spokesperson gave the above information at the conference, noting that the environment protection targets set among key enterprises covering steel, coking, power and cement sectors have all been achieved.

He said that the environment has been apparently improved in local companies. The desulfuration program in ten key enterprises including Tangshan Iron & Steel have been successfully culminated, expected to curtail the emission of sulfur dioxide with 6314 tonnes a year.

Tangshan, known as China first steel city produced over 50 million tonnes of steel in 2009 accounting for more than 10% of the country total capacity.
