Beris China has recently awarded a contract to Tenova for the supply of a 250 tonne per hour Consteel EAF to be installed in Jangsu Province China for the new Steel Plant of Feida Group which is scheduled to start operations in May 2011.
The furnace will have a total capacity of 330 tonne having 220 tonne tapping size, capable to produce 250 tonne per hour. This melting unit will be equipped with 150 MVA transformers and will be characterized by the remarkably high productivity of nearly 2.5 tonne per MW. The downstream equipment will include twin LF, provision for VD and slab CCM.
The mix of charge of the Consteel EAF shall be scrap combined with small percentage of pig iron. The Consteel solution has been selected in light of the limited electric energy requirement and thanks to the environmental advantages that have great importance in a residential growing area like Jangsu Province.
The solution of one supersized Consteel EAF has been studied and compared versus the solution based on two mid-size conventional EAF, showing significant advantages in terms of lower investment, reduced space requirement and more important, cheaper production cost.
