
It is reported that Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co Ltd made a final touch for structure steels of US San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge by using steel plates from Wuyang Iron and Steel CO Ltd on July11 and it was passed through the acceptance tests from US side. The bridge may open to traffic in 2013.
As per report, as a single tower self anchored anti shock suspension structure steel bridge, San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge boasts the widest span in the world. The single tower pillar supports the bridge which totally weights 70,000 tonnes ranking the top amongst its kind globally. It can also sustain an earthquake with the magnitude up to 8 grade and the traffic volume is expected to reach 0.3 million on a daily basis both topping the global bridges. The width of the bridge reaches 70 meters the widest among the world single tower bridges.
Wugang has spared no efforts to develop steel products used for bridges’ structures for many years with an aim to achieving steel nationalization for national key projects. As a result, steel plates with the spec of 235MPa, 390MPa, 420MPa, 460MPa were developed in a stream all with high purity, ductility, toughness as well as good welding performance etc. Wugang bridge plates are widely used in nearly 40 national key projects like Lupu Bridge, Sutong Bridge and more than 20 bridges on the Yangtze River.
