Three chunks of hardening & tempering high-strength steel plate with a thickness of 177.8mm are successfully trial-produced by Wuyang Steel of Hebei Steel Group in early December, all properties of which meet requirements. This completion of such highly difficult development fills a vacancy in China marking a solid step towards ultra-thick steel plate’s domestication.

177.8mm-thick hardening & tempering high-strength plate is a key material in the production of off-shore drilling platform. Only few manufacturers can produce this high-tech-contained plate throughout the world. These plates used in China are all imported before.

Wuyang Steel pioneered in developing steel for oceaneering in China, which have produced twelve new specifications during January to October this year presented by D36-Z35 and A517GrQModified. Also, this mill newly accepted order volume hits 108,000 tonnes in the given period.
