13th Bauxite and Alumina Seminar

SteelGuru, as official media partner, is proud to present you '13th Bauxite and Alumina Seminar' organized by Metal Bulletin, on 5-7 March, 2007 at Athens in Greece.
What a difference a year makes indeed what a difference a few months can make if it is in commodity raw materials. At the time of the last Bauxite & Alumina Seminar in March 2006, spot alumina prices were peaking at close to $650/tonne. The decline since then has been precipitous, with spot values just five months on at $250- 300/tonne fob, and some way below contract prices for the first time in several years.
The slide in prices is the result of a rapid rampup in production, particularly in China where refinery capacity has come on stream swiftly but stealthily, taking the market by surprise and pre-empting the timing of forecast lower prices by several months. And with greenfield and brownfield expansion in train in Guinea, Russia, India and Latin America over the next 3-4 years, lower values for alumina look set to stay.
Jointly organised by Industrial Minerals and Metal Bulletin the 13th Bauxite & Alumina Seminar, to be held in Athens, Greece an active producer of both bauxite and alumina - will provide the ideal forum in which to examine and debate the key issues that will be influencing market dynamics for this important segment of the aluminium supply chain over the coming few years.
Topics on the agenda include:
- Where will spot values settle and what will this mean for contract rates?
- Has China solved its dependence on volatile spot supplies?
- Outlook for Guyana: what is the future for refractory grade bauxite sources?
- How much new alumina is coming to market - and where is it needed?
- Will refinery growth continue as planned, or will we see some deferrals?
- At lower price levels, how much capacity is becoming uneconomic?
- What is the outlook for aluminium demand and LME prices?
- Is there enough available bauxite for all the new capacity?
- What about non-met demand for bauxite and alumina?
- Does the B&A industry need to restructure further?
