The Statesman reported that nearly 1,000 trainees at Steel Authority of India Limited’s IISCO Steel Plant have threatened to go on an indefinite cease work, alleging that, unlike workers at other SAIL units, they have not been given bonuses this year.
While Puja bonuses have been given to trainees at Sail’s Bokaro and Durgapur steel plants, trainees with ISP and Bhillai Steel Plant, have been left out this year.
The trainees protested this by stopping operations at the plant’s Battery No 10 and marched to the office of the DGM (Operations), Mr Ashoke Das, demanding their bonuses.
The aggrieved trainees have threatened to quit the plant, if the steel plant’s management fails to disburse their bonuses by 25 October.
One of the agitating trainees, Mr S K Singh, alleged “When we raised our voices, the personnel department instructed all the departments to mark the agitators as absent and deduct their wages for the day. The management threatened the trainees with expulsion within 24 hours if they took part in the rally.”
