No changes will be carried out in the norms to fix tariffs of terminals at Major Ports with the Shipping Ministry deciding to extend the 2005 guidelines by one more year.
The new development will have a bearing on the terminal operators who had entered into concession pacts with Port Trusts before 2008. The Shipping Ministry had come out with upfront tariff settling guidelines in 2008 and also instituted a committee to suggest changes in the existing guidelines.
Mr K Mohandas Secretary of Shipping affirmed that a decision had been taken to extend the 2005 tariff guidelines by a year. He said that "We will take a view after the committee submits its final recommendations."
The Indian Private Ports and Terminals Association had broached the Ministry on the issue saying that this guideline penalizes the efficiency of terminal operators.
