
Times of India reported that 6 persons, including two senior officials, were taken ill after a gas leak at Rourkela Steel Plant on Thursday.
Sources said the victims had come in contact with poisonous coke oven gas during maintenance work in the plant's coal chemical department.
According to witnesses, two contract laborers had lost consciousness while cleaning the pipes of a coke oven. They were taken to Ispat General Hospital. Following the mishap, a group of officials along with some contractors and workers went to the spot for an inspection. Four of them lost their senses and they were also rushed to hospital.
The condition of all six persons, however, improved and four of them were discharged from the hospital on Friday.
