At least six companies, both domestic and foreign, have evinced interest in setting up a bunkering terminal at Kochi port in Kerala. However, the Cochin Port Trust has not disclosed the names of these companies.
The proposed terminal is likely to be developed on Puthuvype Island, one of the two SEZs promoted by the CoPT. The terminal is likely to have an initial capacity of one million tonne which can be increased to three million tonne. The project is likely to be awarded on a DBFOT basis for a concession period of 30 years.
The CoPT has completed the feasibility study for the project which is slated to be ready by 2011. This terminal is expected to cater to international ships passing through Indian waters.
