Senior executives from APM Terminals Pipavav interacted with EXIM trade customers at an event organised in the city.
Mr Ajay Singh general manager container business of APM Terminals Pipavav said that "We have 30% market share of EXIM trade in Rajasthan and would like to see it grow further. There are many successful exporters in Jodhpur and we want to show them how Port Pipavav can support them to grow to greater heights."
Exim trade flow from Rajasthan, through Port Pipavav, especially Jodhpur, has grown steadily. Train movements have increased from 1 train/month in 2009 to 5 trains/month in 2010, demonstrating that Port Pipavav is fast becoming an ideal port of choice for the trade in Jodhpur.
Commodities exported from Jodhpur largely consist of handicrafts, wooden furniture, textiles, guar gum, machinery and hand tools. Import commodities are print paper, aluminium scrap, PP chips, industrial glass and lacquer.
Mr Singh said that "We are increasing our facilities to support the trade in Jodhpur. As most of the exports are for Europe, the Mediterranean countries and the US, we have increased the number of shipping services to these countries from 1 in 2009 to 4 in 2010. We are also expanding our container yard facilities. Currently, we have a capacity for 620,000 TEUs and are expanding the capacity to 850,000 TEUs."
Port Pipavav is the ideal gateway port for North West India and has developed a modern world class facility. Supported by the expertise and experience of the AP Moller-Maersk Group, APM Terminals Pipavav is committed towards excellence in service, safety and integrity.
Mr SK Sharma from Lotus Gum and Mr Nirmal Bhandari president of the Handicraft Exporters Association, Jodhpur, presided over the evening’s event. Several customers from the trade graced the occasion and participated actively.
