Leading industry body ASSOCHAM urged the Assam government to reconsider the proposal to put calcined-petroleum-coke industries in the ‘negative’ list, a decision that might deprive such industrial units from getting various incentives and subsidies under the state as well as centre sponsored North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy 2007.
Mr DS Rawat secretary general of Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India said that “Inclusion of Calcined Petroleum Coke industry in the negative list vis-à-vis NEIIP 2007 will discourage a large number of companies interested to invest in the calcined-petroleum-coke industry in the state and shake the confidence of those who have already invested big amount in the industry.”
Mr Rawat said that “This proposal if implemented will badly hit a significant investment that has already been made in the state and hamper the current investment inflow across North-Eastern India.”
He added that amid rising environmental concerns across the region, “the potentially affected companies have ensured of complying with all environmental concerns and employing renewable, eco-friendly technologies and approve of monitoring by government authorities.”
ASSOCHAM also urged the Assam government to introduce investor friendly policies” for rapid industrialization that can rejuvenate economic activity and generate 300,000 direct and indirect jobs over the next three years.”
