PTI reported that steel giant ArcelorMittal is still in the process of identifying land in Bokaro district for a proposed 12 million tonne per annum Greenfield steel plant in Jharkhand.

Jharkhand Industry Secretary Mr AP Singh "They are still in the process of searching land in two locations Chas and Kasmar in Bokaro district.”

Mr Singh admitted that the proposed project of the global steel giant will be delayed even though the environment department has recommended environmental clearance, as the nod from the forest department is still awaited.

Earlier, an Environment Ministry panel had recommended giving the green nod to ArcelorMittal's mining project in Jharkhand with an estimated production capacity of 5 million tonne per annum of iron ore.

The project, Meghahatuburu Iron & Manganese Ore mine, located in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, holds significance for the world's largest steel maker as it will assure raw material security for its proposed INR 50,000 crore, 12 million tonne steel mill in the state.

Mr Singh said the steel giant requires 2,400 acres of land for the proposed project.
