Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has secured a contract from Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited for setting up an energy efficient and environment friendly co-generation power plant at its Manali Refinery.

Reposing confidence in BHEL's capabilities, CPCL has placed an order worth Rs.1,700 Million, for setting up a 20 MW (Frame-5) Gas Turbine-based co-generation power plant.

The project is being set up to meet the additional power and steam requirements of the refinery as part of its endeavour to achieve compliance to Euro-IV emission norms.

Manali Refinery is already equipped with three BHEL-installed Captive Power Plants, all of which have been operating successfully, efficiently meeting the power as well as steam needs of the refinery, since commissioning. The customer has once again opted to source a captive power plant from BHEL reflecting its confidence in BHEL's technical excellence.

BHEL's scope of work in the present project envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of a Frame-5 Gas Turbine Generator and Heat Recovery Steam Generator of 85 tonnes per hour capacity, with associated auxiliaries and balance of plant.

The equipment for the project will be supplied by BHEL's plants at Hyderabad, Trichy, Ranipet, Bhopal, Bangalore and Jhansi. Erection and commissioning of the captive power plant will be carried out by the company's Power Sector - Southern Region, Chennai.
