Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has secured another contract from Indian Oil Corporation for setting up a captive power plant at its Barauni Refinery Complex.

Reposing confidence in BHEL's capabilities, IOC has placed an order worth Rs.1,050 Million, for a 20 MW Steam Turbine Generator (STG) set-based captive power plant with a gas/oil fired Boiler of 150 tons per hour capacity. The project is being set up as an extension of the existing captive power plant, to meet the requirement of uninterrupted power supply of the refinery.

The customer has opted to source the captive power plant from BHEL in view of its techno-economic superiority - a testimony to the customer’s confidence in BHEL’s capability.

BHEL's scope of work in the project envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of the captive power plant. The equipment for the project will be supplied by BHEL's plants at Hyderabad, Trichy, Ranipet, Bhopal and Electronics Division, Bangalore. Erection and commissioning of the captive power plant will be carried out by the company's Power Sector - Eastern Region, Kolkata.

For IOC, BHEL has earlier supplied and installed several captive power plants of various capacities on turnkey basis, at IOC's Gujarat, Panipat, Digboi, Barauni, Haldia and Mathura refineries. The plants are under successful operation and are meeting the power as well as steam needs of the refineries.
