TOI reported that Mr Umesh Kumar chairman of Bokaro Power Supply Company Ltd assured improvement in power supply to the plants of Bokaro Steel Ltd within next eight months with its 9th boiler project set to be lighted here soon.
However, improvement in BPSCL power production will help BSL plant and its township to overcome power crisis, which has been suffering for the past few years. BPSCL is a joint venture of SAIL and DVC which supplies its entire power output to BSL.
Mr Kumar inspected the power plant and held a meeting with BPSCL CEO Mr PC Chaturvedi and other officials. He discussed about future action plan with the officials in the meeting.
Talking to TOI, Mr Kumar said initiative has been taken to improve and enhance power production capacity of BPSCL. The BSL authorities and residents would start feeling the improvement from December onwards.
He said that "My first prerogative is to launch 9th boiler project which is already delayed for about two years. Work has already started on the project and would be completed within seven to eight months. Besides the old equipment, machines and boilers would be sent for capital repair to improve its efficiency.”
The 9th boiler project of BPSCL is coming up with an investment of INR 340 crore. Officials said the proposed IX-Boiler will be more technically upgraded in comparison with the eight existing boilers of the BPSCL. This would enhance the power production capacity to minimum 250 MW. Presently, BPSCL power plant is producing 125 to 150 MW power, which is less than the target set to meet the demand of BSL.
