ET reported that Bhushan Steel Limited has put on hold its proposed INR 20,000 crore steel project in West Bengal due to the state government's decision not to acquire land for industry.
As per report, 6 million tonne Greenfield plant will require 2,500 acres of land.
Mr Nittin Johari CFO of Bhushan Steel told ET that "We cannot acquire such large tracts privately.”
The Delhi based steelmaker said that it will review the Greenfield steel plant at Salanpur in the industrial belt of Asansol around September to October.
Since coming to power in May last, one of the first decisions that the Ms Mamata Banerjee government took was not to acquire land for industry. This came in the backdrop of Ms Banerjee's agitation against forcible acquisition of land at Singur for TATA Motor's Nano project, which ultimately forced TATA Motors to shift the project to Gujarat.
