Blast at Oil India installation in Assam

BL reported that a pumping station of Oil India Ltd caught fire and two oil tankers were destroyed in fire at Tipling in OIL headquarters Duliajan in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district on December 2nd 2011

OIL spokesman Mr Jishnu Sarma told that as two crude oil transporting tankers were reversing for unloading the oil at Crudeoil Browser Unloading Station number 3 at around 2 PM they collided which caused sparks to fly and set the CBUS into flames.

The tankers were also destroyed in the fire but there was no report of any injury or casualty.

Stating the amount of crude oil burnt down in the fire was not immediately known, he said, 1,000 kilolitre of crude oil come into the station daily from various oil wells for distribution to various destinations.

Mr Sarma said that the fire had been brought under control by fire-tenders from Duliajan and neighboring areas.
