The under construction rail over bridge at Milan Subway has an unexpected architectural first. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, which is building the bridge, is using a 61 meter single steel girder to span seven railway tracks, including two future tracks.
There will be no intermediate support and the ROB will be an alternative to the subway that gets waterlogged every monsoon. Mr Ratnakar Gaikwad metropolitan commissioner MMRDA said that “It will be the longest single-span steel girder ROB in the city.”
The estimated cost of this steel girder is INR 33 crore. Construction of the ROB will start in October 2010 and it will be functional by March 2011. The entire 800 meter ROB will connect SV Road to Western Express Highway service road.
