
Bhaskar News reported that Coal India Limited will finally pay attention to the thousands of contract workers who work in mines, risking their lives for small wages. The company will now pay compensation to families of contract workers killed in mine blasts.
Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal chaired a meet of Coal India on Thursday in New Delhi where it was decided to provide compensation to kins of victims of mine blasts.
The security measures were also discussed in the meet. Jaiswal stressed on the need for all supporting mining companies should strictly follow security guidelines. He also urged the companies to solve cases related to social security, wages of the labours and other pending issues within a timeframe of two months. Appointment of people on the vacant posts will be made quicker.
Meanwhile, the representatives of workers’ unions blamed the administration of ignoring security issues during mining. They also said the management lags behind in providing essential security equipments to the workers.
