BL reported that the Centre for Indian Trade Unions has withdrawn its call for a one day strike in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and the units run by Steel Authority of India Limited on January 5.
The strike plan was withdrawn following an appeal made by Mr SK Roongta chairman of SAIL and Mr G Ojha director personnel of SAIL on Sunday to CITU national president Mr MK Pandhe that their demand for 24% minimum guaranteed benefit would be discussed at the meeting of National Joint Committee for Steel Industries on January 12th 2010.
Earlier, INTUC, HMS and AITUC had accepted the core committee’s offer for 21% MGB, 72.8% DA merger, 3% increment and wage revision once in five years. The CITU refused to sign insisting on 24% MGB.
