Rajiv Mishra MD of CLP India told ET that Indian unit of Hong Kong listed CLP plans to expand its 655 MW gas fired power plant in Gujarat by another 1,000 MW with an investment of INR 4,000 to INR 5,000 crore.

Mr Mishra said that "We have environment clearance and land for the expansion. We are now waiting for gas allocation.”

Mr Mishra said that "We want to be a mainstream player in the power sector. We will expand capacities based on all sources, but we want to increase the proportion of cleaner energy in our portfolio.”

Besides the gas fired plant, CLP India generates 362 MW of wind power. It plans to expand its wind energy capacity in the country and is considering foray into the solar energy sector.

The company is investing in renewable energy projects in line with the parent group's commitment to develop 30% of generating capacity from non carbon emitting energy sources, such as renewable energy and nuclear power, by 2020. The Indian company currently accounts for 4.5% of the parent's revenue.

CLP India plans to add around 300 MW of wind energy every year over the next three years. It is currently executing 124 MW of wind energy capacity. On Monday, the company announced a tieup with wind turbine manufacturer Enercon India for developing two more projects totaling 152.8 MW in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh at a total investment of around US 198 million.

The projects at Rajasthan (102.4 MW) and Andhra Pradesh (50.4 MW) are scheduled for commissioning by March 2012. With this, the company's total wind energy portfolio stands at 638.8 MW.

It is also setting up a 1,320 MW of coal based plant at Jhajjar in Haryana, scheduled for commissioning by December. The unit will sell 85% of the unit's output to distributors in Haryana, while the balance would be sold to TATA Power Company.
