WITH the intention of developing Shalimar terminal into a hub for domestic traffic the Container Corporation of India has set about wooing customers by offering attractive tariff packages to those who guarantee cargo is learnt.
For a start attractive discounts are being offered to customers for firm cargo support on the Shalimar Amingaon and Shalimar Khodiyar Shalimar routes.
According to sources the Shalimar Tondiarpet Shalimar route is also being considered for the purpose.
Customers offering cargo for the Shalimar Amingaon Shalimar round trip would be entitled to discounts provided 60 containers are made available for the Shalimar Amingaon section and some boxes not necessarily 60 for the Amingaon-Shalimar section. Sources confirmed that the initial response to the offer had been reasonably good.
CONCOR is thinking of offering a package for the Shalimar Tondiarpet Shalimar route similar to the one offered for the Shalimar Khodiyar Shalimar section.
Sources disclosed that while the cargo inducement on the Khodiyar Shalimar and Tondiarpet Shalimar legs was satisfactory, it wasn’t so in the opposite directions.
And although an estimated 3,000 boxes are transported between Amingaon and Kolkata Port during the tea season, it is still one way traffic and seasonal.
In 2010 to 2911 Concor posted 10% growth in domestic traffic in the eastern region by handling 40,000 TEUs up from 36,463 TEUs in 2009 to 2010.
