Auto component maker DCM Engineering said that it is in talks with global commercial vehicle makers for supply of its latest castings manufactured using graphite iron.

The company had partnered with Swedish firm SinterCast to produce compacted graphite iron castings and claims that the new product has about 75% higher tensile strength and more than double the fatigue strength of conventional grey cast iron and aluminium.

Mr JK Menon MD of DCM Engineering said that “DCM is in dialogue with foreign original equipment manufacturers for the export of high quality CGI castings.” However he declined to name the global vehicle makers with which the company is in talks.

He said that besides global players, DCM has also started trials for the new product with some of the Indian commercial vehicle makers without naming them.

Mr Menon said that “Right now the product is being tested for commercial applications and it will take two to three years for us to go into full scale production.”

Mr Steve Dawson SinterCast President and CEO said the Swedish firm would partner with DCM to support the CGI development needs of India, one of the world's largest and fastest growing automotive markets.
