
After receiving the centre's approval for its Phase III, Delhi Metro is fast tracking conduct of preliminary surveys on the proposed corridors and has floated tenders for a few of them, including the one that will connect the capital with its satellite city of Faridabad.
Delhi Metro has begun civil construction on the Central Secretariat-Mandi House section of the Central Secretariat to Kashmire Gate corridor, permission for which was granted by the Centre well before the Phase III was approved.
Tenders have been floated for construction of Mandi House to Jama Masjid section, which is completely underground and Badarpur to Faridabad corridor.
A DMRC spokesman said tenders have also been opened for construction of a third bridge on river Yamuna near Hazrat Nizamuddin on the Mukundpur to Yamuna Vihar corridor.
A DMRC spokesman told PTI that "Civil work is expected to commence on most of the corridors by the end of the year, while Tunnel Boring Machines are expected to be lowered on the Central Secretariat- Mandi House corridor by November.”
The spokesman added that "For the rest of the corridors, soil survey, geo technical investigations, utility diversion tests are being done currently.”
Tender documents are being prepared for awarding the civil contracts and as part of its preliminary work, Delhi Metro has already completed staff allocation for the Phase III project and has also appointed project directors.
Decks for the implementation of the Phase III was cleared when the EGoM cleared the project bringing comfort to a number of unconnected areas and the busy Ring Road.
