
According to Mr E Sreedharan MD of DMRC, the third phase of the Delhi Metro Rail project will be taken up from April next year. Mr Sreedharan after inaugurating the alumni auditorium in the Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University, Kakinada said that the two phases of the Delhi metro project had been completed without any hitch and the third one would be taken up to cover 120 kilometer at a cost of INR 25,000 crore.
The metro rail projects were in various stages at Jaipur, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Mumbai. Metro projects were also being taken up at Ludhiana, Ahmedabad, Pune and Chandigarh. For all these projects, Delhi Metro was acting as the consultant.
He said that the benefits of the Delhi Metro project include drastic reduction in the number of road accidents and the curbing of air pollution to a great extent in the national capital. He said punctuality, discipline, integrity and social accountability were absolutely essential for completing such projects. Only then can the nation progress in the desired manner.
