
Danieli Corus in consortium with TATA Projects has signed a turnkey contract with NMDC Limited for setting up a blast furnace at Nagamar in Jagdlapur District of Chhattisgarh.
The state of the art blast furnace with 4506 cubic meter inner volume will be the largest in India and among top 10 in the world. It would produce around 3.3 million tonne of hot metal annually to meet the entire requirement of hot metal for phase 1 on NMDC’s forward integration plans.
Commissioning is scheduled in 33 months with the help of TATA Projects and Danieli Corus' Indian subsidiary.
The blast furnace would be equipped with Danieli Corus advanced technology in the areas of refractory lining & cooling, hot blast system, hydraulic charging unit, PCI injection system, gas cleaning system, cast house and slag granulation system etc.
Mr Peter Zonnveld MD of Danieli Corus terming this order as a major mile stone said that the order value is approximately INR 1800 crores with TATA project accounting for almost 70% and balance 30% by Danieli Corus.
Mr Zonnveld added that although some feel that bigger the better, this size of furnace is optimum for using available grade of iron ore in India and blended coking coal.
Mr Gajendra Panwar director India operations added that with this contract Danieli Corus order book in India stands at about INR 1500 crores
Danieli Corus has been active in India for several years, having built a series of blast furnaces for companies like JSW Bellary, JSPL Raigarh and Bhushan Steel Angul, TATA Steel Jamshedpur and SAIL Bhilai. It is currently building a 4060 cubic meter BF at SAIL RSP.
