
Eastern Railway carried 41 million tonne of freight traffic during the period from April to December 2011 registering a 3.12% growth over the previous corresponding period when it recorded a total loading of 39.5 million tonne.
Out of the total freight carried between April to December 2011, coal alone amounted to 26.624 million tonne, while other goods added upto 14.151 million tonne. In step, ER's freight earnings also went up to INR 2592.61 crore during the period from April to December 2011 as against INR 2322.45 crore during the corresponding period last year, showing an increase of 11.63% over last year.
ER succeeded in increasing its total earning to INR 3922 crore during the period from April to December 2011 as against INR 3546.28 crore earned during the corresponding period of previous year. Thus, there was an increase of 10.59% in its total earnings.
In terms of passenger traffic, ER carried some 88 crore passengers during the period from April to December, 2011 compared to 83 crore passengers during the corresponding period last year, showing a growth of 5.48% over the last year. Earning from passenger traffic also went up 8.11% to INR 1153.78 crore during the period from April to December 2011 as against INR 1067.24 crore earned during the previous year.
