Business Line reported that substantial growth in movement of coal has helped Eastern Railways clock nearly 15% growth in freight traffic between April and August, to 25.11 million tonnes. It loaded nearly 22 million tonnes of freight during the same period last year.

According to a release, of the total freight loaded, coal amounted to 17.24 million tonnes as against nearly 14 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year, up by about 23%

The release added that the Eastern Railways also surpassed its target of carrying 24.37 million tonnes of freight.
