Gangavaram Port has established a record by discharging 612 packages or 4,497.502 tonnes of project cargo in a single day from the vessel MV Setubal Castle.

The port had already set a national record in May by discharging 71,808 tonnes of non coking coal in a single day from the Capesize vessel MV Go Patoro. This surpassed its earlier record of discharging 57,000 tonnes of coal in a single day from MV Pearl Seas.

The port, which only started operations earlier this year has so far handled five Capesize vessels and may handle four more in a month or so. Such vessels are used to carry dry bulk cargoes.
