Economic Times reported that Gujarat government and several Indian companies are looking to invest in an export LNG terminal in Canada for importing gas from the country.

Mr D J Pandian principal secretary in the state's Energy and Petrochemicals Department said that "The State government and Indian companies are ready to invest in Canada if the Harper government is willing to export LNG to India.”

Mr Pandian who is leading an Indian business delegation here, was addressing businesses at a reception organised by the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce.

He said that "Gujarat wants to tap cheaper natural gas in the Canada and is ready to invest in a LNG export terminal in the country, and a few Indian companies have made preliminary agreements to invest in such projects.”

He invited Canadian businesses to participate in large numbers in the forthcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Summit to be held in Gandhi Nagar from January 8-13, 2013 and take advantage of vast business opportunities in the state.

The theme of the summit would be innovation, sustainability and human development, Pandian added.

ICCC president Naval Bajaj said that "The successful conclusion of a comprehensive economic partnership agreement would lead to more opportunities for bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Canada and India."

He said ICCC will take a business delegation to Gujarat for the Summit.

Preeti Saran, Consul General of India said that "A comprehensive economic partnership agreement holds great promise and will create more jobs and increase prosperity in both the countries."
