ILFS plans thermal plant in Tamil Nadu

It is reported that IL&FS Tamil Nadu Power Company has proposed to set up a coal based power plant of 3,600 MW capacities in Tamil Nadu.

As per report, the 3 project is to be developed over area of 1,181 acre at a cost of about INR 20,390 crore. The project involves installation of two 600 MW sub critical technology based units and three 800 MW units with supercritical standards.

The project also involves setting up of a 30 mld desalination plant and a captive port. The proposed thermal power plant, desalination plant and the port are to be located at the coastal-bands of Kothattai, Ariyaghosti, Villiyanallur and Silambimangalam villages in the Cuddalore district.

The coal requirement for this project has been estimated to be around 15 million tonnes per annum which will be sourced from Indonesia though the sea route.
