Minister of State for Railways Mr KH Muniyappa informed the Lok Sabha that during the last three years i.e. during 2009-10, 2010-11 & 2011-12, 3209 kms. of meter gauge/narrow gauge lines have been converted into broad gauge and work on conversion of 5593 km is in different stages of execution.

As on April 1st 2012, there are 132 numbers of ongoing new line projects in the country. As on April 1st 2012, work on conversion of 5593 kms. of Meter Gauge/Narrow Gauge lines into Broad Gauge is in different stages of execution.

Due to limited availability of resources, time frame for completion of all ongoing projects has not been fixed.
